Vegas…. the possibilities are endless. From pubs and clubs, shows , getting hitched or gambling your house away, Vegas offers it all. Las Vegas, Nevada, was originally named by the Spanish in the Antonia Armijo party back in 1829 however evidence of pre-historic life manifestid in Las Vegas Valley 1993 when workers uncovered the remains of a Columbian Mammoth. Now, some of you may believe that pre-historic life is still “alive and well” in Las Vegas, and, perhaps you are right.
The birth of Las Vegas was a long and hard journey however it was in the years 1930-1946 that the famous Casinos emerged after gambling was legalized in 1931. Gambling was now organized and legalized and Vegas grew from there into the gambling capital of the world. Racketeers and criminals soon realized the potential of Las Vegas they began to move into the strip and pump millions of dollars into this venture. Bye the year 1954 over eight million people were visiting Vegas however, gambling was no longer the only attraction.
The biggest stars of the day including Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and even Abbott and Costello were performing for tourists in Vegas. After being drawn into Vegas by the stars the customers would then need to be fed so gourmet restaurants were built in the hotels. When the customers had sated their appitite, gambling was readily available for all.

Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Shires was ruled out of order when he tried to get a resolution on the doomed Willenhall Leisure Centre through the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Panel at its meeting on Friday.
Ian asked that the panel to express its concern that the closure of Willenhall Leisure Centre would have an adverse effect on the already hard pressed schools budgets in the Willenhall and Bentley areas as they sort to fund alternative arrangements for swimming, possibly outside the borough in neighbouring Wolverhampton.
Tory chairman, Eddie Hughes, ruled the resolution out of order saying that it was not in the perview of that committee as it came under the remit of Neighbourhoods and Community.
Ian argued that the reference to close Willenhall Leisure Centre was within the Draft Corporate revenue Budget 2010/11 which had been circulated to all members of the Scrutiny Panel as background information and as the decision affected schools budgets it was quite within the Panel’s remit to discuss the issue. The chairman disagreed and ruled the resolution out of order.
Speaking after the meeting Ian said “This is a draft budget put forward by Walsall’s Tory Cabinet for consultation, yet each attempt that has been made by opposition councillors to get a formal resolution expressing concern at the proposed closure has been met with resistance from Tory councillors. What’s the point of consulting if all you want to hear are comments in agreement with the content of the draft budget” concluded Ian.
